For those of you who are debating if newly appointed San Fran Mayor Ed Lee is really liberal or progressive enough, you can take the man at his word. Or look at the evidence. Here’s Ed in his senior year at Bowdoin College

C’mon, he’s got a hippie haircut, a devil-may-care smile, and he went to a crunchy liberal arts college where he apparently farmed lobsters to help pay for college. (I’m kinda surprised that his detractors aren’t calling him a “lobster liberal.”) The Bowdoin Orient also goes into his campus anti-war activism. He might be a longtime city employee, but the signs point to progressive politics at his core.

Caroline: Whether you know it or not, your comments are complimentary of Ed Lee, But I’m not sure if you were trying to be serious, sarcastic or what point you were actually trying to make.
He had long hair in college in the 70′s (who didn’t), he went to a highly selective academic school, worked his way through college, was against the Vietnam War and has been an outstanding public servant … if only all our politians could be as educated and competent.
