AAA-Fund Endorses Mazie Hirono for U.S. Senate

AAA-Fund Endorses Mazie Hirono for U.S. Senate

HONOLULU, HI – The Asian American Action Fund today endorsed United States Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) for United States Senate.  Rep. Hirono is running for the seat of retiring Senator Daniel Akaka. If elected, she will become the first Asian American woman and immigrant to serve in the Senate.

“Representative Hirono’s deep record on issues relevant to the Asian American and Pacific Islander community made it an easy choice for this organization to endorse her for the U.S. Senate,” said AAA-Fund Deputy Executive Director Melissa Unemori Hampe.  “In addition, we continue to be impressed with her enthusiasm and willingness to mentor others in the political process and her shared understanding that we need to continue developing a strong pipeline to bolster future generations of leaders.”

Rep. Hirono is now serving her third term representing Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district includes rural Oahu, the seven Neighbor Islands, and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. She serves on two major U.S. House committees: the Committee on Education and Workforce and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Her legislative priorities include job creation, education, transportation, renewable energy, and the environment.

Rep.Hirono is an executive board member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus. She is also an honorary board member of the Asian American Action Fund.

The AAA-Fund is a Democratic political action committee whose goal is to increase the voice of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders on every level of local, state and federal government in America. To achieve this goal, we address the chronic under-representation of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) as campaign volunteers, campaign contributors, and candidates for political office.
