AAA-Fund Endorses Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa for U.S. House of Representatives

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Asian American Action Fund today endorsed United States Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District. Rep. Hanabusa is running for reelection against former Congressman Charles Djou.

“AAA-Fund fought to ensure that Rep. Hanabusa was elected in 2010, proving naysayers wrong. We will continue working on her behalf in 2012 to ensure that a stalwart champion of our community wins another term in Congress,” said Melissa Unemori Hampe, AAA-Fund Deputy Executive Director.

A labor law attorney by trade, Hanabusa first ran for office in 1998 and was elected to Hawaii’s state senate. Eight years later, she was elected to be President of the Senate, becoming the first woman to lead either house of the Hawaii state legislature.

“Colleen is smart, driven, and dedicated to helping the hardworking people of Hawaii,” said Gautam Dutta, AAA-Fund Executive Director. “She is a proven leader and well respected public servant and we are proud to endorse her for the United States House of Representatives.”

As Hawaii’s Congresswoman, Hanabusa has stood up for Hawaii’s against the Republican government shutdown and Rep. Paul Ryan’s plan to end Medicare and Medicaid as we know it. She also co-sponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act to end salary inequality between men and women. She is also a strong supporter of Hawaii’s military residents and veterans and has worked hard to deliver more than $500 million for military construction projects in Hawaii.

The AAA-Fund is a Democratic political action committee whose goal is to increase the voice of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders on every level of local, state and federal government in America. To achieve this goal, we address the chronic under-representation of Asian Americans and Pacific Americans (AAPIs) as campaign volunteers, campaign contributors, and candidates for political office.
