Earlier today, Caroline reported on Texas State Representative Betty Brown‘s horrible, stupid and racist questions and suggestions posed to Ramey Ko yesterday during voter ID hearings. This story has been picked up around the internet. As Helen mentioned, Huffington Post has picked up the story.

So have:

Talking Points Memo, the Trailblazers, the Dallas Morning News Opinion Blog, the Associated Press, SheWired, Markos Moulitsas Zuniga of Daily Kos, StuHunter of Daily Kos, Miya Shay, Bill Hing at Immigration Prof, Capitol Annex, Bay Area Houston, Matt Glazer with Burnt Orange Report, Off the Kuff, Tim at 8asians, The Bayou,
Pinkdome, John Liu, In The Pink, racymind, Elise Hu, poli-tex, R.G. Ratcliffe, and, of course, Angry Asian Man, who also has a link to a generator for names acceptable to Betty Brown.

Reappropriate has a partial transcript of the encounter and you can watch the video, thanks to KXAN:

Fox News framed the story as “Asian-Americans Blast Texas Congressman’s Call for ‘Easier to Deal With’ Names,” and Austinist oddly states “Rep. Betty Brown’s Like Your Adorably Oblivious Grandmother.”

Some news outlets are picking up on Brown’s faux-apology.

There’s already a Down with Betty Brown Facebook group. As of this writing, it already has 124 members.
