Yesterday your DNC reporter caught up with two top APA leaders: Boston City Councilor Sam Yoon and lawyer, entrepreneur and Survivor winner Yul Kwon.
We asked Sam how it feels to be Boston’s first Asian American elected official:
It’s a big responsibility, but it’s a huge honor. I knew from when I got elected that my responsibilities would extend beyond Boston to Greater Boston, Massachusetts, New England and even nationally; because they’re so few of us Asian Americans that hold elected office.
Activist Yul Kwon hopes Councilor Yoon will run for Mayor next year. He noted that Sam’s dynamic leadership will encourage more APAs to get involved in politics:
In general, Asian Americans are not as politically active as they should be. But, as a Korean American, I feel our community in particular is behind.
More interviews to come!
