A couple hours ago we caught up with accomplished actress and activist Tamlyn Tomita, who is representing APIA Vote at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Tomita expressed confidence that a record number of Asian Americans, especially younger APAs, would vote this November:
This particular year is quite unusual, with the Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. It has galvanized the youth vote, particularly first-time voters. It’s really exciting for them to bring in their passion and discover what it means to say, “I believe in this, I believe that YES WE CAN”.
Tomita also urged younger APAs to vote — and honor the enormous sacrifice our parents and grandparents made for us to have a better life:
We need to make sure the younger generation knows that people fought for and really laid down blood, sweat and tears for you to have the right to vote.
